should i start my ‘maternity leave’ at my due date, even if the baby hasn’t come yet?

I’m trying to decide if i should go ahead & start my 12 weeks off at the end of this week–which is my due date. i had wanted to try & work up until delivery, but i’m feeling a bit worn out (have had a series of mild complications–Bell’s Palsy, bad pitting edema, pre-eclampsia scare). I will be induced at a week past my due date (at most) so i’d only have one week off before the baby would be here…

so, what would you do?
try & work the next two weeks (or up until labor) or take my leave at the end of this week (if she doesn’t come before her due date)??
yeah, i want to spend as much time with her, but at the same time, i don’t want to be totally worn out at delivery!

should i take the induction? should i push for it?

okay, so i’m 39 weeks, 1 day… i was having some signs of impending labor a week ago, but they’ve all stopped (since i got a pre-eclampsia scare–high BP, proteins, swelling for a couple days…) so i’m concerned that i’m not going to go into labor on my own in the next 6 days… and i’m exhausted! i’m recovering from Bell’s Palsy (compression of facial nerve causing paralysis) which sorta hurts as the nerve “reconnects”… i’ve got BAD pitting edema (my ankles & feet have been swollen HARD for months & feel bruised)… i’m anemic (prenatals aren’t helping that much, i’m fully drained)…

i’m thinking of taking off from work at the end of this week (my due date) but my midwife won’t usually induce until 41 weeks… if i haven’t deliveredy by then i will take it, but i was wondering… should i try & talk them into inducing me a little earlier?
i’m not officially “pre-eclampsic”… i’m just showing signs of developing it… (i’m pre- pre-eclampsic)
i’m on evening primrose oil & have been trying to do all the natural things to get things started (though i can’t manage to walk very long, i’m so tired!) but things seem to have stopped… it was looking good last week, then all the complications started showing up
oh, the baby is on the big side–already over 8 lbs they estimate…

but i’ve not had any internal exams done (due to GBS+), so i don’t know the condition of my cervix. i do know baby is head down & dropped, but she wasn’t fully engaged at the last appointment (almost a week ago)

Has anyone else been diagnosed wtih Bells Palsy in the last days of pregnancy?

Friday night my tongue had a burning/numbing feeling and my ears were really sensitive. The next morning I woke up and the left side of my face was numb and droopy. I went to the ER as advised by the on call dr from my obgyn’s office. They then diagnosed me with this bells palsy and prescribed me with valtrex and a eye moisturizer and I need to wear a patch over my left eye to reduced dryness. I researched online that it is fairly common in pregnant women within the last weeks/days of pregnancy. I am scheduled for a c-section this Tuesday and Im hoping after delivery it reduces. Has anyone else had this? How long did it last? How far along were you in your pregnancy?

Thanks!
I also have a very noticable lisp. How long does that part last? The ER dr said it varies person to person.

The other morning I woke up with a strange feeling in my eye. Like I didn’t have control over the muscles around it. Over these past few days it got worse. Now it’s in my cheek and also my lip. But it’s only on the right side of my face. I set-up a doctors appt and did a little research online.

Has anyone experienced it before? If so, how long did it last.. ..how did you feel? .. I’m jusr REALLY curious.
I’m 5 months pregnant.

I am 28 weeks pregnant and woke up with Bell’s Palsy 3 days ago. The doctor put me on Acyclovir to help, but I’ve read that for many pregnant women it doesn’t go away until the baby comes.

Has anyone else had experiences with Bell’s? Did Vitamin B12 help you?
Bell’s Palsy is the paralysis of one side of the face.

Has anyone had Bells palsy either during or after pregnancy?

Bell Palsy

I had it 2 years ago I recovered 85% My face didnt move on the right side for 7 months. Most people cant tell unless Im really tired or sick, or upset. Im pregnant again and im so scared of a relaps. The dr. Just tells me hes not sure. Anyone had a relaps? Im having trouble this week but i had to go to the dentist. I dont know if thats why, OR………………..
Im scared of it probley because i only recovered partially. I had NO movement for 7 months on that side. It has caused dental problems, and i cant smile without it being clear that ive had it, because 9 times out of 10 my right side doesnt move as much.

Pregnant women with Bell’s Palsy?

Bell Palsy
izzy & co.-33 weeks strong

So I’m 37 weeks pregnant and it seems that as of yesterday I have Bell’s Palsy. The right side of my face is numb. My GYN prescribed “pretnizone” (hope I spelled that right) and said it was safe to take because the steroids will not reach the placenta. The meds are supposed to reduce the swelling and prevent it from getting any worse etc. They say it’s fairly common among pregnant women in the last trimester and that it usually goes away within weeks after pregnancy.

Are there any pregnant women out there who are going/have gone through this? Please share any details you can. I would appreciate it. Needless to say this is very scary.
