Bell’s Palsy?

Bell Palsy
Brendon A

I was diagnosed as having Bell’s Palsy 3 years ago this week. I am a healthy, physically fit, 34 yr. old man. I have been told by neurologists, an ENT and my GP that I will not fully recover from this……I refuse to accept this. I am seeking any hope, suggestions, stories or otherwise that may help me with my battle………….thanks in advance.

I am sorry, but if Bell’s Palsy does not go back to normal within a year, it is most likely not going to recover. I had a friend where it took 10 months to return to normal, but it did. Your condition is most likely due to a severed nerve, and because nerves do not regenerate, you will most likely not recover from this.

If a doctor tells you, “you have 5 months to live,” FIND A NEW DOCTOR.
never settle. there is always hope.
Here is what I think you should try:
“Recent studies have shown that steroids are an effective treatment for Bell’s palsy and that an antiviral drug such as acyclovir-used to fight viral infections-combined with an anti-inflammatory drug such as the steroid prednisone-used to reduce inflammation and swelling-may be effective in improving facial function by limiting or reducing damage to the nerve. Analgesics such as aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen may relieve pain. Because of possible drug interactions, patients taking prescription medicines should always talk to their doctors before taking any over-the-counter drugs.”

    Good luck,
    Jake P

PS: I am not a medical professional of any kind, so obviously dont take my advise over any real type of doctor.
I am just a high school student with alot of medical interest.

Have you tried physical therapy at all? There are specialists for facial problems – some treatments may include exercises for facial symmetry; moist heat; and electrical stimulation of the affected facial muscles. Good luck -
